Instructions:

Part A – Cleaner

  1. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions on packaging for best results.
  2. Remove dirt and debris with a broom and garden hose.
  3. Mix 1/3 cup Wood Cleaner (Part A) with 1 gallon of hot water.  Mix thoroughly and let the powder fully dissolve before using.
  4. Apply liberally to wood surface using a garden sprayer, mop, brush, pump sprayer, etc.  Wait 10-15 minutes, while maintaining a wet surface (a light spray nozzle on a garden hose works well).  Scrub with a stiff broom or scrub brush.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water using a spray nozzle and garden hose, or the lightest setting (no more than 1200 psi) on a power washer and let dry.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 if needed.

Part B – Brightener

  1. For use after cleaning wood with Part A.
  2. Mix 1/3 cup Wood Brightener (Part B) with 1 gallon of hot water.  Mix thoroughly and let the powder fully dissolve before using.
  3. Apply Messmer’s Brightener (Part B) in the same manner to clean rinsed wood with a generous and even coat.  No need to scrub or brush this time.
  4. Allow 30 minutes for color restoration.
  5. Wash off thoroughly with a garden hose.
  6. It is important to do BOTH parts, as Part B re-balances the pH in the wood.
  7. Allow deck to dry completely before applying Messmer’s UV Plus finish.

Sealers

ANCHORSEAL2® End Sealer

End Sealer for Logs and Hardwood Lumber

ETT Fine Woods stocks ANCHORSEAL2®, a high quality wax sealer that provides protection to prevent end checking in freshly-sawn green longs and lumber.  The sooner ANCHORSEAL2 is applied after sawing, the more effective it will be in reducing end checking.

Benefits:

ANCHORSEAL2 stops most end checking before it begins.  Depending upon the species, you can prevent up to 90% or more of end checking (drying splits) and improve yield in your logs or lumber.

Application:

Anchorseal should be applied to all end grain surfaces as soon as possible after cutting.  Similar in consistency to paint, it is possible to apply ANCHORSEAL2 in several ways, including with a brush, roller, or with spray equipment.  When applied it will initially look like white paint, but will dry clear to a wax finish.  If a sprayer is used, the tip must be large enough to accommodate the thick ANCHORSEAL2 emulsion.  Care should be taken to coat only the ends of the boards.

Sprayer and application information and answers to frequently asked questions are available on the manufacturer’s website at UC Coatings.

Anchorseal should be applied liberally, “to the drip” – apply as much as the lumber will hold, until the lumber can absorb no more of hte solution.  If there is no dripping, it may be too little.  If the ends drip heavily, it is excessive.  A second coat can be applied if needed.
