How can you make sure to optimize their lumber usage?
We often have customers ask how they can make sure to optimize their lumber usage. So we wanted to provide some best practices that can help you to make sure you are getting the most from your hardwood lumber.
1. Get the most footage per shipment.
Try to minimize your number of shipments by ordering larger shipments, mixing species in each order, and trying to order multiple grades of lumber in one shipment. Shipping cost can add to your lumber costs so less shipments equals savings on lumber.
2. Order specific lumber.
To maximize your lumber usage ask your lumber wholesaler to sort and ship only the sizes you use most.
3. Use exact width rips.
To save a step you can request ripped to width lumber so that first step of the lumber usage process can be taken care of.
4. Develop a custom grade.
If you have certain specialized requirements for your business and or products you can help us to create a custom grade so we can make sure to provide you with exactly what you need.
5. Ask for advice.
Depending on your industry and products look around for best industry practices. Also here at ETT Fine Woods we will do our best to provide you with the best advice on how to maximize your lumber for your business.
