We currently have Beli Lumber on special at ETT Fine Woods. Beli (Julbernardis pellegriniana) is an economical substitute for Zebrawood. It is roughly 65% of the cost of Zebrawood. The quarter sawn has distinctive stripping. However, it usually lacks as sharp contrast between dark (ebony colored) and light (ivory colored) stripping that Zebrawood has; the coloring in Beli is not as dark and pronounced.
Beli wood is from the same area’s as Zebrawood, including the Western part of Africa, predominantly Cameroon and Gabon. It is used for flooring, decorative millwork, cabinets, and for crafts. It is considered to be generally easy to work with. Occasional tear out may occur due to interlocking grain.
We carry 4/4 only. It is kiln-dried and has exceptional widths and lengths (especially when compared to Zebrawood). We have about 5,500bf available. It is 6” and wider with about 5% 4-5”, averaging 8.4”. It is 10-16’ averaging 14.33’ in length.
