Ipe in the Caribbean: Saint Kitts and Nevis

One of our salesman shared these photos of a beautiful project under construction on Saint Kitts and Nevis. The doors and portico ceiling are all ipe wood supplied by ETT Fine Woods. You can also see that they are applying the UV finish to give the Ipe that dark rich final look. We supply ipe decking and mahogany lumber to all of the Caribbean. If you have any questions about this project feel free to contact us today.

We find that our Teak and Ipe wood is extremely popular in the Caribbean because of their beautiful appearance and amazing ability to weather in a tropical climate.

All About Teak & Ipe

Pronounced “e-pay”, Ipe is widely recognized as one of the hardest and most durable timber species in the world. Its wide color variation provides a striking appearance on decking, siding, and other uses. It is naturally durable and resistant to rot and decay, making it an excellent choice for exterior applications. It not only lasts a long time but has the beauty of an interior hardwood. Ipe is a popular natural alternative to PVC or composite products. It outlasts other popular wood decking species such as treated Pine, Cedar, Redwood and Douglas Fir.

Teak, known as the “king” of hardwoods due to its long service life and durable characteristics, is a close-grained wood with high natural oil content. It is one of the most durable of all timbers, highly resistant to any rotting and almost impervious to the effects of hot sun, rain, frost or snow. Teak requires little or no maintenance regardless of the environment. These characteristics combine to make it the ideal timber for all outdoor applications and it has been the choice of builders in coastal areas for centuries. Once seen primarily on elegant yachts and in the most extravagant estates, Teak is now a premium wood of choice for designers of hotels, marinas, and upscale homes. Apart from its natural beauty, Teak is one of the most valuable of all woods.
